A conversation with director and actress, Mounia Akl ('Costa Brava, Lebanon') and film director, Asmae El Moudir, ('The Mother of All Lies') about positive body politics and the Arab women who create cinema under extreme conditions.
A conversation about positive body politics and the Arab women who create cinema under extreme conditions. Together with director and actress, Mounia Akl (‘Costa Brava, Lebanon’) and film director, Asmae El Moudir, who is featured in this year’s program with the film ‘The Mother of All Lies’, we welcome you to a conversation about women empowerment through film. We dive into how to hold on to the stories of yourself and those you love – through storms, lies and explosions. Can the accumulation of adversity also help create something extraordinary?
The conversation will be moderated by Aram Ostadian-Binai, Founder and CEO of ‘The Soulfuls’ and DEI Creative Consultant.

A love sonata to ballet and to 'Swan Lake' with all that it entails of hard training, low self-esteem, dreams, racism, redemption and stubborn traditions that might be in a process of change.
After 16 years as artistic director of the National Ballet of Canada, former Canadian ballet star Karen Kain has decided to step down. But as a final flourish, she has decided to direct and stage a more modern version of the physically demanding ballet classic ‘Swan Lake’. But you have to be on your toes if you want to modernise in a classical and conservative world, where even ditching the plain, light-coloured gaiters in favour of the dancers’ naked, scarred legs can cause an outcry. ‘Swan Song’ follows the director, the choreographer, the dancers and everyone else involved from the moment they roll out of bed to the moment they premiere on the national stage. It is a film about individual hopes and dreams, but also a look into a rigidly conservative world of hierarchies, racism and low self-esteem. Wanting to be a ballerina is hard work. Because even if you love ballet, ballet doesn’t always love you back.

'Just be fat'. With that call, the activist author Aubrey Gordon begins his personal story about being fat in a world made for thin people. A cinematic manifesto recorded over six years, from her start as an anonymous blogger to her breaking anonymity to become a best-selling author and famous podcaster with all that follows from praise, private messages from the singer Adele and death threats. Her goal is to create a paradigm shift in the way we look at fat people and the fat that sits on our own bodies. But most of all, it's getting her own parents to listen and understand what she's really going through. 'Your Fat Friend' is a touching and humorous film about fatness, family, the complexities of changing things, and our messy relationship with our own and others' bodies. But as Aubrey Gordon himself says, the solution is quite simple, because it's just about treating fat people as what they are - namely people.

Den tyske fotomodel Lale overvejer at lade sig klone som en virtuel figur. Hun kan spare sig selv for hårdt arbejde ved at lade sig duplikere, samtidig med at modebranchen kan slippe for at hyre modeller, fotografer, makeupartister, lysmestre og så videre. Teknologien har gjort dem overflødige, for nu kan alt produceres digitalt til perfektion med hjælp fra en fotorealistisk avatar. Alt det kræver er bare et enkelt bodyscan. Mens Lale gør sig klar til at duplikere, undersøger hun de juridiske og moralske konsekvenser ved at bringe en virtuel klon til verden. For med frisættelsen følger også risikoen for, at ens avatar begynder at leve sit eget autonome liv på internettet.

Why Women Make Better Leaders?
Gender shouldn’t be a factor in whether or not a person can be a great leader — a person’s leadership abilities should depend on their individual strengths and personality traits. However, in many cases, women aren’t encouraged to take on leadership roles as often as their male counterparts, contributing to an imbalance of who’s in power. This discussion looks at the qualities of women as leaders and the difficulties they face in getting the top roles.
