Reading Fashion as Culture: How Diversity Shapes Visual Narratives

Marianna Fioretti is an Art historian & Cultural researcher whose work explores the relationship between fashion, visual culture, and contemporary social transformations.

“Fashion is often discussed through trends, aesthetics, and market cycles, yet behind every visual movement lies a deeper cultural story”

In this lunch talk, Marianna explores how fashion functions as a cultural system, shaped by collective memory, social narratives, and shifting identities.

Drawing on her work as an art historian and cultural researcher, she will guide participants through an alternative way of reading fashion and visual culture. Rather than focusing only on surface trends, Marianna will unpack how museums, media, and creative industries reflect and construct the stories societies tell about themselves, and how creatives can engage more critically with these narratives.

This session invites participants to slow down and think beyond the immediate pace of the industry. Through cultural insight and reflective frameworks, Marianna will share how developing a deeper understanding of visual culture can strengthen creative direction, sharpen critical thinking, and help professionals navigate the fashion and creative industries with greater awareness and intention.
