Top tips to get the most out of The Soulfuls mentorship programme
Why Mentoring matters
Ever wish you had someone in your corner who’s been there, done that, and can help you navigate your next steps? That’s exactly what mentorship is all about. It’s not just about gaining wisdom from experienced professionals (though who wouldn’t want that); it’s about mutual mentorship where you can learn from each other, exchange insights, and grow together. That’s the magic of The Soulfuls’ mentorship programme, The Soulfuls approach to mentorship is all about collaboration, respect, and shared success. Providing a space where women from all backgrounds have the support and confidence to achieve their career goals and often much more.
So, if you managed to land a spot as a mentee, how do you make the most of this golden opportunity? Here are some top tips to ensure you leave the programme feeling empowered, connected, and ready to take on the world.
Be proactive
The Soulfuls has put its heart and soul into creating this programme to empower and support you, but here’s the thing: the real power lies with you. The sooner you realise that no one is going to champion you more than you, the sooner you can jump in the driver's seat and take control.
Being proactive requires courage but it's a quality that will benefit you throughout your life in all facets.
See your mentor has a connection you’d love an introduction to? Ask. Need career advice? Ask. Want to be involved in The Soulfuls Summit (which, by the way, is an incredible opportunity)? Make a suggestion. The age-old saying still stands: closed mouths don’t get fed. Life won’t wait for you, so go after what you want.
Dreams are lovely. But they are just dreams. Fleeting, ephemeral, pretty. But dreams do not come true just because you dream them. It’s hard work that makes things happen. It’s hard work that creates change.”
Shonda Rhimes
Have a goal in mind
Having a goal gives you direction and motivation. And before you panic, no, it doesn’t have to be a five-year master plan with every detail mapped out. Goals come in all shapes and sizes, maybe you want to build confidence in networking, switch industries, or start your own business.
Your goal doesn’t have to be achieved within the mentorship timeframe, but having one helps your mentor help you. They can offer guidance, share relevant experiences, and provide invaluable direction. A great way to start? Try making a vision board. Seeing your dreams visualised makes them feel real, and trust me, the moment they start coming true? Unmatched.
Connect with other mentees
Your fellow mentees aren’t just people in the same programme; they are your peers, future business partners, advisors, and most importantly, friends.
Through The Soulfuls mentorship, you are in a fortunate position. You’re surrounded by some of the best up-and-coming talent, like-minded women with diverse goals but the same drive for success. There’s this narrative that the path to success is a lonely road but … it doesn’t have to be. The Soulfuls is changing this but you have to play your part.
Make an effort to get to know each other. Start a conversation, and exchange ideas. You never know where a simple chat could lead. Networking isn’t just about meeting industry leaders; it’s about building a community.
Be persistent but also patient
Your mentor is likely a busy person, and, let’s be real, so are you. Work, studies, family, social life, it’s a lot. But if you truly want to benefit from this programme, like anything worthwhile you need to make time for it. There are so many things fighting for our attention but you have to be intentional and persistent in where you put your focus.
However, be patient with your mentor and yourself, life can be overwhelming and sometimes we can’t juggle it all. It’s all about balance.
One thing I found helpful was scheduling the next meeting at the end of each session. That way, there’s always a set time to catch up, and you won’t fall into the “we should meet soon” trap. Even better, with your mentor set yourself a task or mini-assignment so that even between meetings, you're still making progress and keeping the momentum going.
Come with an open heart
One of the most powerful lessons I learned from my mentor is the power in vulnerability and sharing your story. Opening up can help you make real connections with people. Connections that can change your life.
Sharing our stories and hearing how she navigated not only professional hurdles but also major life changes gave me a fresh perspective and a sense of hope. If I hadn’t allowed myself to be vulnerable, I might never have had those deep, meaningful conversations that shaped my journey. Our mentorship was built on mutual openness from the start, and that created a space for real trust and growth
Mentorship isn’t just about ticking career goals off a list; it’s about growth, understanding, and trust. So, be open. You might be surprised at how much you and your mentor have in common.

Feel the fear and do it anyway!
You know that feeling when a great opportunity presents itself, but self-doubt creeps in? Yep, that's Imposter syndrome. And unfortunately, it's very common for many women.
Too many women have missed out on incredible opportunities because they felt they weren’t ready or didn’t deserve them. But if an opportunity has come your way, it’s because you’re meant for it.
Say yes. Take the leap. The worst that can happen? You learn something. The best? It could change your life.
Things to Keep in Mind
Mentorship is a two-way street; a little thoughtfulness goes a long way in building a good relationship with your mentor. Here are a few gentle reminders to help you out.
Respect boundaries - Your mentor is happy to support you( after all they signed up to this too), but they have their own commitments too. Being mindful of their time keeps the relationship balanced.
See mentorship as guidance, not a quick fix- It’s important to have realistic expectations Your mentor is there to provide support, however, the responsibility lies with you.
Don't ghost your mentor - Stay engaged and show up for your meetings. A strong mentorship thrives on consistency!
Embrace feedback - Remember your mentor is always in your corner. Constructive criticism is only there to help you grow.
The Soulfuls’ mentorship programme is more than just career advice. it’s about empowerment, community, and shared success. You’ll walk away with new insights, valuable connections, and maybe even a whole new perspective on what’s possible for you.
So take charge, set your goals, connect, be patient, open up, and step outside your comfort zone.
Good luck, you got this!
